Playing Dead is a short story written by Abigail Sidebotham in Prague, 2014.

It presents the scenario of a wrecked and broken bankrupt city that has been maintained in a permanent state of disrepair for the purposes of disaster tourism. The two male protagonists, Makemake and Hadbud are clones, their parts a copied collection of mythological beings, celebrities, sages and dead Gods.

Having just met each other for the first time, they climb to the top floor of the tallest building and over look the city. Here Makemake, a disillusioned artist seeks to understand Hadbud's specific perceptions as a scientist, questioning his understanding of free will in relation to his own art practice.
